The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Freinds of Breakheart Reservation invite you to begin your weekend fireside with a hot cup of cocoa and a family friendly movie in the Christopher P. Dunne Visitor Center. The Show begins at 7pm on March 2nd. Join us in the Hunting Lodge Style Visitor Center located at 177 Forest Street in Saugus off the Lynn Fells Parkway near US Rt.1.Dress the kids in their PJs and spread out a cozy blanket for a FREE family friendly night out. Ample free parking is available. From north or south: Take Rte. 1 to Lynn Fells Parkway exit, follow Lynn Fells Parkway a short distance, take a right onto Forest Street. On Saturday March 17th from 9 am till Noon, the Friends of Breakheart Reservation serve up their renowned Pancake Breakfast once again. Traditional Native songs and stories will add an atmosphere of the 1750 era Northeast Woodlands to Breakheart Reservation?s Maple Sugarin? as Material Culture Presenter Jennifer Lee portrays an Algonkian woman in an eighteen foot diameter eastern conical wigwam equipped with the needs of daily life at the time. This program is sponsored by individual contributions to the Urban Park Trust Fund. Next, Tour the History Section, Tree Identification activity, Tap a Maple, watch the Evaporator at work in the Sugar Shack, and best of all, Taste the Results! A $4 admission will directly support the Friends of Breakheart?s purchase of the equipment you will see in action.

Much of Maple Sugaring today is the same as it was three hundred years ago; rooted in methods the early settlers learned from the Native Americans. Nor has the great amount of time and effort involved in producing maple syrup diminished over the years.
