Dailies for November of 1999

November 30, 1999

The Saugus Youth and Recreation Department asked us to let everyone know that they have a limited number of pumpkin seeds available from Bobby Seeley's giant pumpkin (the one displayed on the Saugus Town Hall lawn). They are free and are distributed with instructions on how to grow your own giant pumpkin. They'll be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call 781-231-4022 or stop by the Youth and Recreation office on 120 Essex Street, Saugus, to pick up your seeds.

We've posted some pictures from the Thanksgiving Day Football Game between Saugus and Peabody.

November 24, 1999

The office will be closed tomorrow and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday, but pages like the Community Events Calendar will continue to get updated. Also, if your computer isn't going to be busy during the holiday, why not set it up to be a part of the Saugus Area SETI Team and let it work while you take a break?

We were asked to post the following press release from the Saugus 2000 Celebration Committee:

No Millennium admission buttons to be sold at the door New Year's Eve

Admission buttons to the Saugus 2000 Millennium Celebration at the Square One Mall on December 31, 1999, will not be sold at the door on New Year's Eve.

A limit to the number of buttons to be sold was set at 3000 to ensure adequate viewing for the Gala Midnight Spectacular as well as to provide sufficient dance floor space. "Further," chairman John Mangini explained, "the Simply Elegant Catering company needs an accurate count to provide the all-you-can-eat Italian Buffet Supper".

Admission buttons are on sale at the three Eastern Bank offices in Saugus, The Saugus Federal Credit Union, and the two offices of the Saugus Cooperative Bank. Buttons can also be purchased at the Balloonatics Store, Dr. Herb Upton's Optometrist Office, and S. James Hair Stylists (all in Cliftondale Square). Adult and children buttons are also available at the Town Hall in Saugus Center. "Buy now and don't be left out," Mangini added.

Mall doors will open at 7:00 PM with magicians, clowns, and face-painting for the little ones, while entertainment and adult dancing to the Pendulum Swing Band (in the atrium) and DJ Alan LaBella's "Music for Teens" (in the Food Court) will commence at 8:00 PM. There will be six food stations spaced throughout the Mall all evening. A midnight toast and party favors will be supplied later in the evening as will coffee & sweets until 1:00 AM.

"Our plan is to make this Saugus New Year's Eve Family Celebration Party a pleasure for all," Mangini concluded.

So many entries have been added into the Guestbook we split it into two pages to make it load more quickly. On the same topic, we got an e-mail from a viewer (who wishes to remain anonymous) who suggests that we tell people that they can address e-mail to the underlined names by clicking on them (assuming that their browser and e-mail client program are properly configured).

November 17, 1999

The TV & Radio page got some minor updates today.

November 16, 1999

The pictures of the winners of the Halloween Ghost Story Contest (who wanted their pictures online) are now online. If any of the other winners change their minds, we'll see that their pictures get online, too.

November 13, 1999

As mentioned in the Community Events Calendar, we'll be giving away the T-shirts to the winners of the Halloween Ghost Story Contest today at 3:00 PM. Authors will also have the opportunity to get pictures of themselves and a little bit of biographical information about themselves online.

If you haven't checked out the Saugus Area SETI Team lately, it's now utilized over two years worth of CPU time that would have otherwise been wasted to produce over 750 sets of results.

November 4, 1999

As we did last year, we're inviting winners of the annual Halloween Ghost Story Contest (and any other interested parties) to the Saugus Public Library at which time winners will get their T-shirts and (if they'd like) their pictures taken to go online along with their stories. The exact time and date are listed in the Community Events Calendar, but in brief it'll be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 13.

The Saugus Election Results have been posted.

November 2, 1999

As noted in the Community Events Calendar, today is local elections day and polls are open in Saugus from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Be sure to read candidates' views as expressed in the Questions to the Candidates section.

November 1, 1999

All the winning Halloween Ghost Story Contest entries have been posted. We had many excellent entries this year, including some from outside Massachusetts. Particularly in the adult category it was hard for our judges to pick just three winners; several stories got very high ratings.

If the winning authors choose to give us more information about themselves, we'll post it along with their stories. We'll distribute the T-shirts to the winners within the next couple weeks.

Also, just a reminder that today is the final day we'll be accepting answers to the Questions to the Candidates.
