Today is the busiest shopping day of the year; you can however avoid the crowds, save time and money, and help out Saugus.net all at the same time. Just by using one of the links to our various sponsors (Amazon.com, the iTunes Music Store, or Simply Audiobooks) here on Saugus.net and place an order, you'll not only save yourself money and aggravation, but you'll be helping to support the numerous free services we provide here at Saugus.net, too.

Today is election day. Voting locations vary by precinct; if you're unsure of your precinct you can look it up online on the Saugus Town Clerks' site. You can also see how the candidates answered your questions in the "Questions to the Candidates" and check out political discussions on the Saugus political forum.

Tomorrow is election day. Don't forget to see how the candidates answered your questions in the "Questions to the Candidates" before you vote. A few more responses came in over the weekend, so if you checked earlier you may have missed some. We'll keep on adding responses tonight and even through the election itself, so candidates still have a few hours to meaningfully participate. Also, you can read and participate in discussion about the election in the Saugus political forum; you can see what results others are predicting, and you can even post your own predictions.

As the yard sale season has pretty much passed, we've removed the yard sales calendar from the sidebar. In its place, we've added a direct link to the "Questions to the Candidates" section where the candidates for the various elected positions in town can answer the questions you sent us. As always, candidate participation is voluntary; at this point in time, roughly half of the candidates for selectman (and fewer of the candidates for other positions) have submitted responses.

The results of the Tenth Annual Halloween Ghost Story Writing Contest were all posted last night and in the very early AM this morning. As with last year, the contest caused our judges a great deal of consternation as there were so many excellent entries, especially in the adult category. The top results were again tightly packed, with only a tiny margin separating them. Next year we'll be making the submission deadline a little earlier in order to give our judges more time.
There are a couple points to note. First, only four winners this year came from Massachusetts; three came from Illinois, one from California, one from North Carolina, one from Florida, one from Hawaii, and one from the state of Washington. Second, again an entire school-age category was swept by a single school -- this year it was the elementary school category, while last year it was the middle school category. This has not happened too many times in the entire history of the contest.
