We've now started to post the winners in our twelfth annual Halloween Ghost Story Contest. We'll be continuing to post them throughout the night, category by category.

Our regular "Questions to the Candidates" feature is again online and open to the general public. While we have not yet received any answers from any of the candidates, committees both for and against the new proposed charter have already responded.

We're now well passed the Ghost Story Contest deadline. If your story is not yet in, it'll have to wait until next year.

Tonight's the Halloween Contest deadline. Any entries that come in later than that will be held until next year. The past twenty-four hours has seen many middle school entries submitted from all over the world, so whereas yesterday we were saying it looked like it was going to be an easy year to win at that level, now it appears that it's going to be very competitive. Good luck to everyone who has entered, and again, please remember that if you don't hear back from us try and contact us right away; we do respond to acknowledge every entry we receive.

The deadline for this year's Halloween Ghost Story Writing Contest is tomorrow. We'll be checking just after midnight on the 23^rd and entries that come in later than that will be saved for next year. There still are not too many elementary school or middle school entries in, so if you're debating on submitting one this is definitely a good year for it.

This is the last weekend before the annual Halloween Ghost Story Contest deadline. If you can only write on weekends, this is your last chance. We're now caught up with responding to entrants, too, so if you believe you've sent us a story and haven't heard back yet, please contact us as soon as possible.

The Saugus Historical Society site was updated today.

The SAVE site was updated today.

The office will be closed today for the holiday. However, the Community Events Calendar, Yard Sale Calendar, and other like pages will continue to be updated.

This is just a reminder that the annual Topsfield Fair is now well underway; it ends this weekend. A few Saugus companies and organizations participate in it regularly (like Sullivan's Old Fashioned Cider and the Kowloon Restaurant; if you know of more please let us know). This is an event that incorporates all of Essex County (and even a bit beyond), not just Saugus, and has quite a long history.

This is just a reminder that the Saugus area yard sales calendar is still active. As per usual we'll close it down for the season once activity on it dies down.

The Saugus High School Alumni Association site was updated today.

Those interested in the debate over the proposed new charter for Saugus can browse to Web sites both in favor and against it. We'll also be displaying arguments for both sides in our regular "Questions to the Candidates" feature.
