Donations of good, usable, clean donations would be appreciated and all proceeds go to the Parish. Table space is still available for $10.00 if you wish to sell your bric-a-brac yourself (bring your own table).

The Saugus Historical Society will present an exhibit entitled "From Cattle Drives to The Strip: The Story of the Newburyport Turnpike" at the Society's museum at 30 Main Street, Saugus. The exhibit will continue every Sunday afternoon from September 11 thru December 11 from 1 P.M. thru 4 P.M. with free admission. The exhibit will show by photographs and documents the history of the Turnpike in Saugus from its 1803 construction to the present, showing some of the early Saugus homes, the major 1930s divided highway and overpass construction, and the development thru the 1940s and later of the Strip. The exhibit will also look at the highway's future.

Tours of the house on the hour from 11am-4pm An opportunity to see inside this c. 1687 house built for the young family of William Boardman, a local joiner, this house has survived remarkably intact since its construction. Interesting features that were discovered include a wall of original 17th century oak clapboards that are visible from the lean-to attic, ceilings on the upper floor that were never plastered, and a portion of skirt board that once finished the rear wall of the house. With the exception of minor structural stabilization and repairs, the house has since gone unaltered, providing a great opportunity to view 17th and 18th century construction techniques and finishes.

In addition to musical selections, reflections, and readings, there will be a collection taken for the Salvation Army's assistance to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. All are welcome; those attending are asked to bring their own candles. The vigil is a joint service of the Saugus Veterans Council and Clergy Association.

This is the business meeting of the Saugus Historical Society. The general membership and interested parties of the general public are welcome.

The Saugus Senior Center Bible Study will resume (after Summer Break) in the Computer room. The study is led by Rev Dr Bob Leroe, Pastor of Cliftondale Congregational. This is a non-denominational small group study, there is no charge, and all are welcome, regardless of church background. The focus will be on the New Testament Book of Acts.

CLASS OF 1960 UPDATE - 45th reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at the VFW in Saugus. We are having it the night of the Alumni Dinner Dance (which means any and all alumni are welcome); however, the Class of 1960 will be in the alcove and set aside. Two years ago, the Class of 1957 and 1958 held their reunions together along with other alumni and it was a huge success. It was a very memorable night. Also the Alumni Assoc. pays for the hall and the band and we encourage all alumni to hold their reunions that night (which is ALWAYS the last Saturday in September). Please check my column in the Saugonian at www.saugonianplus.com (alumni news) that comes out every other week. Mark your calendars and join us!
