The Saugus Area Television and Radio Information page was updated today.

The Saugus Area Educational Resources page was updated today.

The Saugus Business Partnership site was updated today.

This is just a quick reminder that (as of late tonight) the deadline for this year's Halloween Ghost Story Writing Contest is now just one month away.

We've already received several entries for this year's Halloween Ghost Story Contest; every age category except high school already has at least one entry, and most have more. We'll be accepting entries up through the 26^th of October.

Many new lesson plans have been added to the Saugus TAHG Teaching with American History site recently. Also, further information about the project itself was uploaded today.

The Saugus Historical Society site was updated today.

The Historic Saugus Coloring Book site has been recently updated and now features new download options.

The Computer File Name Extensions List was updated today.

The Lynnhurst Elementary School site is currently undergoing its first major update in years. The changes first started being made a couple of days ago, and they will likely continue over the next few days.

There were many small updates today; the General Information page, the Non-Profit Organizations page, the News Sources page, and the Miscellaneous Information page were all updated.

Due to its seasonal popularity, we've added a link to the Annual Halloween Ghost Story Writing Contest in the sidebar. It'll stay there until sometime late November or as long as its popularity justifies it.

The Saugus Area Entertainment, Recreation, & Sports page was updated today.

We've uploaded some photographs from Saugus Founders' Day 2005, and we've provided the answers to the Saugus Trivia Contest. The contest was apparently a tough one this year; three questions went unanswered.

The Saugus Founders' Day trivia contest details have been posted. You can see the questions and even print out a copy to bring with you to Founders' Day (there won't be many copies available on site). Some of the questions are easily solved online, so be sure to read over them before going.

Don't forget to stop by the Saugus.net table tomorrow at Saugus Founders' Day and try your hand at Saugus trivia, pick up information about this year's Halloween writing contest, or learn more about the new Saugus discussion groups.

Remember, Founders' Day weekend has traditionally been a big weekend for yard sales locally, and a lot of people will be looking online to help plan out their day. If you're having a yard sale this weekend, don't forget to post it so that people can find it.

If you've been actively following the news of Hurricane Katrina and the damage it left in its wake, you may be interested to see satellite views of the damage done. The Satellite button shows the pre-Katrina view and the Katrina button shows the current view, and yes, the areas that now look bluish are indeed under water.

The office will be closed today for the holiday. However, the Community Events Calendar, Yard Sales Calendar, and other like pages will continue to be updated.

All the information that we've received from the Saugus Founders' Day Committee for this year's Saugus Founders' Day is now available online.

You have perhaps read some of the reports in various media outlets about how the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will be switching away from closed formats like MS-Word and Excel to more open formats like PDF and OASIS and may be wondering how the change will affect you personally and Saugus more generally. The quick answers are:

• It probably won't affect you too much as PDF viewers have been being pre-installed onto virtually every machine for the last decade or so anyway, and are freely available otherwise.

• It's not of immediate concern as it'll be a phased change between now and 2007.

• It won't affect most of the bigger Saugus web sites at all (as Saugus.net has been supporting open formats generally since 1998 when the Saugus By-Laws were first made available, and newer Saugus School sites like the TAHG project site are already building in support, too).

And of course if you're worried that you may not be able to open one of these more modern formats for some reason, there are ample free software options that will read such files without costing you a penny.
